Frazee is no stranger to specialty staffing - some of our biggest successes have come in the accounting, information technology, and engineering related staffing areas. The engineering area has become one of our fastest growing niches and we are continually expanding our services in this area. Our focus on companies that "build things" and the requisite talent requirements that go along with this is a natural transition for Frazee due to several reasons: Baton Rouge and the surrounding area is in a "building boom" like it has never seen before - we are truly transitioning from a big "small city" to a small "big city." And many of the clients that Frazee has supported over the years - the architectural, engineering, and construction firms - are the key players in this building boom. These clients know Frazee's recruiting expertise and commitment to candidate quality.
Some projects that Frazee is currently recruiting for include infrastructure development, commercial construction, and manufacturing & design of products for the petrochemical industry. There's a big push for degreed professionals as well as for support personnel. Frazee Recruiting has current work orders for project managers, drafters, designers, schedulers and civil engineers. This latter job category has proven to be the toughest to recruit. Is it any wonder? According to Staffing Industry Analysts, "civil engineers have the lowest unemployment rate of an occupation with just 0.3%." This reality has been reaffirmed by Staffing Management Magazine who describes civil engineers as the "most sought-after occupation." U.S. colleges and universities are simply not graduating enough engineers to meet the demand that currently exists. Many corporations are having to step up their recruiting efforts and use non-traditional methods to attract the talent needed in this area.
What are some other things that a hiring manager can do to assist them in locating the best candidates?
First off, be a bit more flexible in your hiring requirements. Certainly, companies want the most experienced talent, but, if you can "relax" the requirements on years of experience needed for the position, then do so. It may be that you can get the job done just as well with someone who has 3 years of experience than someone with 5 years. Be willing to take a recent college grad or intern when appropriate.
Move quickly when the recruiting firm has candidates available for interview. Don't "drag your feet" when it comes to making an offer. Communicate clearly with your recruiter--give him or her a good job description and communicate changes in status quickly. Last but not least, be competitive with your salary and benefits.
What's Frazee doing to make certain that their Recruiters have all they need to fulfill their clients staffing needs? Training is key - making sure our Recruiters are keeping current on all the latest trends, tactics, and techniques used to assist clients. One of our best training resources has been AIRS, a company leader in internet sourcing techniques. The AIRS training has assisted Frazee Recruiters in locating those hard to find, passive candidates that can become an engineering firm's key employee.
Although, we at Frazee are clearly aware that Louisiana is still "catching up" with the rest of the country, we are proud to be a part of the current business expansion, and we are using our best efforts to continually support it.
