“Go Red for Women” all year long!

I have been privileged to be part of Capital Area Heart Association’s “Circle of Red” group for several years now. We’re a group of women from all walks of life who endeavor to make an impact on the heart health of women in our community.

Each year we gather for the Annual “Go Red for Women” Luncheon.  There was a “sea of red” gathered at the Raising Cane’s River Center on February 3, 2017. When the doors opened at 10 a.m., people poured in to visit the “health themed booths” and bid on their favorite auction items. Sponsors kindly donate their time & effort to raise heart healthy awareness.  My favorite giveaway this year was the exercise band – now I have to commit myself to using it!

Heart disease has run in my family for years. My “Circle of Red” group is a constant reminder for me to be vigilant and take care of myself. It is really not all that difficult. You just need to eat the right foods, get active, and know the warning signs of heart attack, stroke, and cardiac arrest.

One of the biggest draws of the “Go Red for Women” Luncheon is the fashion show, sponsored by Macy’s.  This year was no different. From “tweens to grandmas,” the models walked the runway to the crowd’s cheers. Yet the most meaningful part of the entire event was the survivor’s stories.  It simply makes everything worthwhile just to know you have helped raise awareness and to know that you may even save a life someday.
